My great early inspiration was Mark Rothko. From there I explored many styles but always returned to the minimal. Expressing an idea through form, balance and space is the closest thing to painting music, which is the most abstract form of art there is. Doing away with the recognizable image allows the viewer to touch emotions that lie beneath the surface of the familiar. This work expresses the grids of the city with the contrast of light, dark and space.
